A request to my former students

Do you regard yourself as a former student, supervisee, or mentee of mine? If so, I have a request, please. I have done a lot of teaching over the years: at the University of Sheffield, at Robinson College, Cambridge, at The Open University, at the Medical School of University of Crete, and as a mentor and supervisor to individuals at various institutions. In recent years much of this teaching has been unpaid, or–to use a fancier term–pro bono. I do it because I enjoy it and because I believe that teaching is a way of making a positive difference in the world. I’m proud of this work and of my students, and now that I’m getting older, I’d like to have a record of it. I don’t mean a list of courses and syllabi; that’s on my CV, anyway. I mean something a little more personal–a page on my website with details of former students and their achievements.

So here’s the request. If you are a former student or mentee of mine, and you would like to be featured on the page (which will be public), then please email me some text for the page, saying when and where you studied with me, what you got out of it, what are doing now, and adding anything else you like. Add a photo or website link too, if you want. Here is the draft webpage with the first entries.

If you are not sure whether you count as a former student or mentee of mine, then the answer is that you do if you regard yourself as one–if you have studied or worked with me in any capacity at any level, and you feel you benefited academically from the contact with me.

I’m not fishing for compliments, just for pleasant memories and a sense that I have been useful! And, of course, it will be lovely to hear from you again. If you have my personal email, you can use that; otherwise, please use the contact form here. Please share this message with anyone who might be interested.
